Man overboard! Marcelo Mocheta traveled for three weeks through the freezing waters of the Arctic, exploring the last stripes of land before the North Pole. This exhibition is the result of the visit he had made to Svalbard Archipelago. The works that are part of this “North” are also, at their own way, like the islands of the same group. Distributed by very different techniques and supports, they keep, at the same time, unique identities and a common ground.
In Moscheta’s artworks, the points of contact and confrontation, between the idea of landscape and nature are always the motivation and the engine. The human being is the only animal that measures and compares himself using the relation between him and the surrounding environment.
The horizon line - one of the cornerstones of the landscape painting - turned our own standed up body through the last centuries of art history into a cartesian axis. Moscheta faces and messes up with this structure, having the romanticism painting of the 19th Century with special attention to the mountains and glaciers of Caspar Friedrich, as a reference and as his sublime repertory.

The drawing is another North - not only for the show, but for Moscheta’s whole trajectory. It’s with it that the artist from São Paulo, builds up his relation with the landscape tradition -adding up the encounter with memory. Moscheta draws upside down, by erasing instead of tracing, working as a brain that archives strategic moments, a museum that chooses its own collection. His poetical thinking has another foundation based on journeys and recovered territories, places where he catalogs natural elements and marks viewpoints and circulation (latitude and longitudes) over a virtual map. The link between these points is also a drawing, traced over the world, even when it is a floating line, adrift.

Homem ao mar! Marcelo Moscheta viajou três semanas pelas águas geladas do Ártico, explorando as últimas faixas de terra antes do Polo Norte. Das visitas que fez ao arquipélago de Svalbard nasceu esta exposição. Os trabalhos que compõem este "Norte" também são, à sua maneira, como ilhas de um mesmo conjunto. Distribuídos por técnicas e suportes muito distintos, eles guardam identidades singulares e ao mesmo tempo uma filiação em comum.

Moscheta desenha às avessas, apagando em vez de traçar, operando como um cérebro que arquiva os momentos estratégicos, um museu que escolhe seus acervos. Seu pensamento poético tem outro alicerce nas viagens e reconquistas de territórios, lugares em que cataloga elementos naturais e marca pontos de visita e circulação (latitudes, longitudes) em um mapa virtual. A ligação destes pontos também é desenho, traço no mundo, mesmo quando linha flutuante, à deriva.
